The Background

The Walt Disney Company is a diversified world renown American multinational mass media corporation headquartered at Burbank, California. Disney was founded back in 1923 October 16 by two brothers, Walt & Roy Disney. The company started with the intention to provide quality entertainment for the people around the world through animated movies. In the past products from the company, the classic examples that springs to our childhood memories would be Snow White & the Seven Dwafts, Pinocchio as well as Dumbo in the early 1940’s. Nevertheless, back in 1928, the founder Mr. Walt Disney himself had created the infamous cartoon icon named “Mickey Mouse”. Today, the company had been well taken cared by Mr. Robert Iger, Chairman & CEO since 2000. The recent works by Disney was Avatar, Frozen & Maleficent. Disney are also the owner of their famous subsidaries such as Lucas Arts, Pixar Animation Studios as well as Marvel Entertainment which recently produced X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. is also a world renown corporation in the line of the entertainment industry. The company was founded by four brothers named Albert, Harry, Sam & Jack Warner in Hollywood, California at the same year as Disney, back in 1923. The four brothers began acquiring movie theatres in 1903 and moved into the film distribution. They began producing films between 1913 – 1917 in their headquarters in Hollywood. Warner Brothers slowly became well known from their films such as Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Scarface (1932), and The Exorcist (1973). Just recently, the firm had been passed down to the hands of studio veteran, Mr. Kevin Tsujihara in March 2013. The recent masterpieces by Warner Bros. The Organization's Sturcture

The Walt Disney Company explained how the company operated with the idea of a corporate organization chart below, which is hierarchical. The company shows the job titles according to the reporting chain of command and ultimate authority by isolating each of the operating division into “silos”.  For the larger boxes are for people like CEO and Senior Vice Presidents which have higher positions while the little boxes represent those dispensable employees.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. most closely looks like a divisional structure. The company divided into a number of distinct, including Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, Warner Bros. Television Group, TheWB.com, DC Comics and it holds partial of The CW Television Network. The Warner Bros. Pictures Group brings together the Studio’s motion picture production, marketing and distribution operations into a single entity and it also brings the company’s organizational structures in line with Warner Bros.’ home entertainment and television operation. Each divisions has its own high-ranking management team which runs largely independent businesses.

Leadership Styles

The Walt Disney Company are leaning towards Autocratic style of leadership because they put strict rules in their ‘Standards of Business Conduct’. It states that all of the ‘Cast Members’ and employees are to follow rules even if their supervisor ask them to do on the contrary. They took the production oriented type of management because they need people to produce quality products. Besides, those who works for The Walt Disney Company and its affiliates knows the strictness of the rules just to take care of the quality of products, this can relate to the Ohio State Studies of ‘Initiating Structure’. This is due to the company’s objective is being attain by the employees and the leader of the company.

Warner Bros. Entertainment, based on their ‘Standards of Business Conduct’ uses a more Democratic Style of leadership, which can be found on their ‘Report on Determination of Current Board Leadership Structure’. It states that gives the committee and the board to hold ‘Executive Sessions’ without the Chairman and CEO or other members of the management present. Democratic Style of leadership refers to the more praticipative roles in the decision-making process. Warner Bros. Entertainment utilizes certain values as shown in the picture here:

This means that the employees should ask questions on what can they do, then they should learn the company’s rules and act accordingly. Due to the contents of the ‘Standards of Business Conduct’, we can safe to say that they prioritize their employees and this reflects the studies conducted by the University of Michigan, that they use ‘employee oriented’ approach.

In conclusion, the market trends in the arts of entertainment not only shifts our modern era to a more color-filled path, but to also provide state of the art visual dynamics to entertained the globe ceaselessly. Both Disney & Warner Bros. are the leading trendsetter in thier multibillion dollar industry. Those respected companies are the ones that have been with us throughout our many years in life during childhood to the days of tomorrow after 91 years at the current year 2014 in the business & they would still be here for yet another 100 years more to come.
